The body serves as an instrument and the voice as an expression of inner and outer life. It can make the inner life resound and relate to the outer world. Singing and making music can make happy and offer another language as a form of expression. Vocally, Merle gained basic training in pop, jazz, classical, and experimental music as well as in free improvisation, vocal performance art, voice, and movement.

Merle plays music in several band and group projects, composes and teaches.
