Fields of work:
Film/Photography/Installation/Music/Singing/Voice/Movement/Acting/Performance

An important component of Merle Thordis’ artistic work is the connection between music and movement – expression, sound, and the body. In Merle’s performances, voice, rhythm, and space merge into vivid images that touch on both the personal and the political.
Merle performs regularly both solo and in groups, develops their own concepts, and composes pieces in which they engages with social and political themes. In doing so, they create works that transcend the boundaries between music, dance, and visual art – performances, installations, and video projects that pose questions, open up spaces, and make emotion tangible.

Starting from a melancholic, yearning mood, the trio Oona ventures on a journey into the unknown, with the path lined by lyrical lines, eruptive solos, and contrapuntal passages full of unexpected twists and turns.
The musicians Merle Thordis (vocals), Justus Czaske (clarinets), and Noah Weber (guitar) embody a chamber music–like sound that places collective interplay at its core and moves effortlessly between jazz, art song, folklore, and free improvisation.
